Prisoners’ welfare and development

AFFAH campaigns for the welfare and development of prison inmates and has been in the forefront of stakeholders who have been liberating those accused of criminal charges but are not brought before the court of competent jurisdiction for trial. Many of the accused persons have languished in jail for three to four years without trial. As at 2013, Nigeria has 135 Prisons with a total population of 54,156 prisoners. 38, 352 suspects were awaiting trials, 15,593 are convicted male criminals and 211 convicted females. AFFAH has through its legal department obtained the liberation of more than 200 awaiting trials and those who have been unjustly incarcerated in the various Nigerian prisons. AFFAH continues to fight to prevent the infraction of the rights of prisoners and the underprivileged.
